Talk to me about turning your print products into German, French, Russian, Korean, Chinese, Hebrew, or any other language. (And check out my DTP portfolio!)
Whether you have manuals or entire books, catalogs or flyers, posters or newsletters – send me your files, and I will return them in the languages you need to promote your business and sell your products. If you have access to good translators, you can send me the translation and I focus on the foreign-language layout and typesetting.
I have been in the field of translation, teaching, typesetting, and publishing for more than 25 years and have been working with over 120 languages. And still, I am always looking for new challenges!
I work mainly in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, on Mac or PC, but if you do your layout in Word, Powerpoint or Publisher, I will deal with it as well.
Please remember that a good typesetter will always need the fonts and images that you have used for the original material. However, if you don't have the fonts, or if you have only a hardcopy or a PDF version of your product, I will recreate the layout and design in the foreign language from scratch and match them as closely as possible.
Once the typesetting has been finished, there are a couple of possibilities: (a) I can send you the entire InDesign package in the foreign language (i.e. InDesign files, fonts, images, plus PDF proof). Or (b), I can simply turn the foreign-language DTP files into a press-ready PDF file, in high resolution and CMYK colors, with or without crop marks and slug area, as per your printer's needs. And finally (c), you can get me in contact with your printing company, and I can discuss the specs for printing directly with them, after you have signed off on the PDF proof.
Typesetting is an art. It requires focus and passion. The typesetter must not only be extremely detail-oriented and creative, but also have an expert knowledge of computer-created colors, color adjustment and correction, image manipulation, font issues – and have in general a very good sense of esthetics. In addition, a multilingual typesetter usually needs many years of experience in typesetting in foreign languages, before fully understanding the do's and don'ts of flowing text and creating a layout for a foreign market. I have this experience --- but still: It is absolutely mandatory that the typeset product be reviewed once more by a native linguist, before printing. I can organize this last review for you, if you wish, or you can use the linguists you work with and trust.
